A special thanks to all of our members who supported the Horsham meeting, we were over whelmed by the response and congratulations to all of the winners who received the benefits of the owners and trainers bonus scheme.

VHRC member Len Baker looks at the latest winners.

FRIDAY MAY 28 – HORSHAM

A host of owners including Buangor Louis Franc, R Di Tomaso, T Franc, C Drew, T Drew, B Magee and J McCorkell would have been elated when their 4Y0 Bonavista Boy-Bianca Jasper gelding Bonavista Boy led throughout from gate three to land the Don’t Miss Out On The VHRC Bonuses Pace over 2200 metres. Driven by Michael Bellman, Bonavista Boy was untroubled to run out a 7.5 metre victor over Shady Credit which shadowed him, with Oscar Bravo (one/one) third 3.8 metres away  The mile rate 2-03.

Louis Franc also received the trainer bonus making it a most profitable afternoon for him.

  • Louis a school teacher at Amphitheatre has another handy pacer in Franco Jolto, a winner of 10 races. 

Glenorchy (Stawell) owner/trainer Greg Cooper was successful with his 5Y0 Grinfromeartoear-It Is What It Is gelding Local Icon who snared the APG – Not For Profit Sales Co Pace over 1700 metres. Driven by Jason Lee, Local Icon settled one/one from gate five as My Porsche led from gate two. In a winning move, Local Icon was switched to trail the leader approaching the final bend and used the sprint lane to prevail by a metre from Seal The Destiny (one/two) returning a mile rate of 1-58.4. Aerodyne Guy held down third 4.1 metres back after racing exposed for the trip.

  • Greg Cooper is the son of the late Reg Cooper who held a long time position as President of the Stawell HRC and has always been a keen follower of the sport.

The 1700 metre Check Out the VHRC Website www.org.au 2Y0 Pace was taken out in fine style by Tim O’Brien’s Restrepo-Ballygeana filly Relentless Me in a mile rate of 1-57.7. Trained at Pootilla by Brittany O’Brien, Relentless Me with Bendigo freelance reinsman Neil McCallum in the sulky began best from gate two and was never headed, reaching the wire 1.9 metres from Hot Deal which raced in the open. Got Equity (one/three – three wide last lap) was third 4 metres back.

Brittanny was to bring up a double after combining with Darby McQuigan on this occasion to land the VHRC – APG – APTS Bonus Race Series Pace over  1700 metres with Wyattflynn, a 4Y0 gelded son of Pet Rock and Shes Got It All raced by Phillip Devereux, D Steenhuis and W Steenhuis. Spending most of the race at the rear after starting from the extreme draw, Wyattflynn when taken wide on turning produced a lightning burst of speed to win by 1.7 metres over Flaming Lucky (one/one) and the leader Best Back Bruce who held on for third. The mile rate 1-59.2.

A large syndicate of owners – Adam Wilkinson, P O’Shea,  M J McLellan, G P Merlo, R E Bollard, R A Spice, G McRae, B D McCarthy, APWM Racing and  Mailbu Racing would have been cheering from home as their Somebeachsomewhere-Champagne Dreams colt Lamandier coasted to the wire in the APG Serving The Industry for 32 Years 3Y0 Pace over 2200 metres. Trained and driven by Terang’s Mattie Craven, Lamandier began fast from gate four to lead and was never in any danger, scoring by 7.2 metres over Ultimate Vinnie which trailed and Sayitaintso Joe who was 1.1 metres back in third place after easing away from the inside to be three wide in the final circuit . The mile rate 1-58.6.

  • Mattie Craven, one of the best in the state is building up a really nice team and is always on the lookout for prospective owners. 

Tayla Nicholson and Graham White’s 4Y0 Bettors Delight-Yankee Dream mare Dreamers Delight was an all of the way winner of the 1700 metre APG & APGS Offers $2.2M In Prizemoney Pace.  Driven by partner Zac Phillips, Dreamers Delight was able to cross from gate five and in a two horse battle up the running, prevailed by a half neck from a death-seating Revitalise returning a mile rate of 1-57.5. Rank outsider Top Gun Tilly (one/one) was third 5.2 metres back.

  • Tayla also received the trainers bonus making it well rewarded journey. 

Millionaire NSW based owners Emilio Rosati and wife Mary were victorious with 3Y0 Sweet Lou-Bee Jays Money filly Prestige Stride in the Become A VHRC Member Today Pace over 2200 metres in a mile rate of 1-57.6. Trained in partnership at Melton by Anthony Butt and Sonya Smith, Prestige Stride gave Zac Phillips a double by leading throughout from gate three, accounting for The Sportz Star which trailed by 3.1 metres, with roughie Duty Bound third 2.1 metres away from three back the markers

  • Both Anthony and Sonya received the trainers bonus as well.
